Sarcoidosis (sar-'koi-do'-sis) is a multi system disorder of an unknown origin that predominantly affects the lungs and intrathoracic lymph nodes. Sarcoidosis is a total body disease and can attack all of the organs in the body including the lungs, heart, skin, liver, eyes, brain, spleen, kidneys and the nervous system, and can be fatal. The cause is unknown; however, researchers believe genetic and environmental factors may play a role in the development of the disease. At this time it is not known to be contagious, nor is it a form of Cancer. (National Institutes of Health/NIH)

Janine Sarcoidosis Outreach Foundation is a leading nonprofit education and outreach organization. Founded in 2003, the foundation works to educate the public, health care professionals, media, and government agencies on the health issues of Sarcoidosis and a need for public awareness, patient resources, and more research into a cause and cure.
